Synergy at its Best: micnode2 and Airport CX Redefine Air Travel Dynamics

With nearly two decades of experience in public address systems and having implemented numerous projects for world-class airports, Simpleway encountered many issues with existing systems, therefore, we gradually developed our own public address system devices to solve them.

Deployed across multiple airport installations, Simpleway's first microphone station became popular for its touchscreen and paging functionalities. With the introduction of the nnounce brand, the micnode2 emerged as the next-generation microphone station.

As we look forward to ISE 2024 in Barcelona, where the nnounce brand will be showcased, we'd like to explore the synergy between micnode2 and Airport CX and how it can enhance airport operations and elevate communication with passengers.

Purpose-built Interfaces from Airport CX

micnode2 uses a variety of purpose-built user interfaces from Airport CX such as Gate UI and Baggage UI, that allow users to trigger flight related voice announcements at the boarding gate, airport lounges, baggage claim carousel, or any other setup locations. These UIs are designed to be used by devices with a touch screen like micnode2, requiring a couple of taps to perform most operations.

The Airport CX package includes a text-to-speech library containing operational announcements utilizing flight data, specifically crafted for the Gate UI and Baggage UI, as well as general non-flight-related announcements. These user interfaces can also be configured to play pre-recorded announcements. Both text-to-speech and pre-recorded voice announcements are carefully crafted by our voice content experts, who employ professional native speaker voice actors and linguists.

Boarding Gates Areas

Using the Gate UI, specially designed for paging from micnode2 in gate areas, operators can see information related to the gates they control and activate announcements for flights assigned to a specific gate, with very personalized content and up-to-date information.

Its core functionality is playing flight specific announcements in multiple languages to selected zones, live paging, text-to-speech capabilities, visual paging to digital signage screens, ability to change class, flight status and boarding information.

Baggage Claim Areas

Using the Baggage UI, designed for paging from micnode2 in carousel areas, depending on its configuration, operators can see information related to all belts at once or only the belts they control and activate announcements for flights assigned to these belts.

BaggageUI core functionality is playing flight specific announcements to selected zones in multiple languages using quick access buttons, live paging, visual paging to digital signage screens, with the ability to assign different belts to flights.

Changes made to the Baggage UI are reflected on a dedicated display, providing the necessary information at the right time. In this example, you can see the change of the status informing passengers about flight delay and the scrolling text of the announcement itself. When the flight arrives, you can tell passengers whether the last baggage has already been unloaded.

Features Highlights

Announcement Paging

Operators can quickly and easily choose the desired announcement from a specific category with just a few taps on the touchscreen. Announcements can provide the variants of content to address different conditions, such as reasons for delayed flights, or allow making adjustments to specific information, for example when inviting passengers seated in specific rows to board the aircraft.

Live Paging

Operators can select the desired zones, speak into the microphone and the audio will be broadcasted simultaneously.

Visual Paging

Broadcasted announcements and real-time recordings can be shown on screens employing speech-to-text and visual paging functionalities, as well as sign language videos. This creates a synchronized harmony between the public address system and digital signage screens.

Changing Display Information

Besides the visual paging feature, operators can also alter the information presented on displays, such as flight class, flight status or an ad hoc message. Additionally, the displayed information can be automatically conveyed based on triggered announcements, pinpointing crucial parts of the played announcement, as an example.

Customized User Control Interface

Our micnode2, built on the nnounce audio platform, can be used as part of a Q-sys paging system or any other third-party HTML5 application that will allow you to maximize the potential of a touchscreen microphone station through which you can perform the necessary operations.

To provide an example, it is possible to craft your personalized UCI (User Control Interface) using Q-SYS designer, offering a structural overview of your public address system, granting you the ability to oversee and control all audio zones, initiating live calls to specific zones or groups of zones with just a single tap on the screen.

Real-time Updates

Airports must ensure that passengers receive up-to-date information regarding schedules, delays, and other vital details. micnode2 with its powerful built–in audio processing engine allows for real-time updates of flight information over public address system and digital signage screens, allowing airports to communicate changes to passengers in audio and visual messages instantly.

Security

micnode2 promises to elevate your audio communication, prioritizing reliability and security at every step. The device can communicate over the network using all contemporary audio standards such as AES67, RTP or VoIP with the ability to add an extra encryption layer to prevent eavesdropping by malicious actors. It’s built in secure–enclave element enables secure connectivity to all major industry cloud providers.

Conclusion

Whether triggering announcements, managing live calls, micnode2 stands at the forefront of cutting-edge airport communication solutions, offering a holistic solution for diverse applications, integration with Q-SYS, multilingual speech-to text and text-to-speech capabilities and robust security measures. micnode2 as a versatile and reliable microphone station for airports looking to ensure real-time updates, enhance communication efficiency and passenger experience.
